Live Line Hot Stick techniques have been in use in the electricity industry for many decades. Two basic techniques are used - long and short stick. Basically the Short Stick techniques consists of the technician working from part way up the pole by either positioning himself on pole climbers or more commonly from an insulated bucket. The Long Stick technique simply involves the technician working from ground level. Many of the actual processes are the same it is simply that the stick length differs. Clydesdale has been at the forefront of these techniques virtually from their instigation by being able to supply Hot Sticks and other associated equipment from such world leading manufacturers as AB Chance, WH Salisbury, Hastings, Ritz and Fameca. All Hot Sticks are manufactured and approved to IEC 60855 and are therefore insulated to 69kV per foot. However, live working techniques should only be carried out within accordance with your companies safety guidelines and only trained personnel should ever practice live working.
